The GEPV (formerly the GEPS) was founded in 1976 about the same time as a circular was published acknowledging the applications of vegetable proteins in foodstuffs thereby authorising their use for human consumption.

EUVEPRO, a European Association, was created in 1977. The GEPV is one of its founder members.

Over the years, research has been carried out into a growing number of sources of vegetable proteins giving more scope for their use in foodstuffs. 1999 marks a coming of age…

Since it was created, and with the support of inter-organisational bodies, the GEPV has played an active rôle in developing vegetable proteins by promoting public awareness of these products.
